To go private....or not to go private?

So going private is all the rage right now. I have seriously been debating whether I should join the club. I would love to hear everyones reasons for going private, or not going private. Is it a safety issue or what? I always get frustrated when I find someone I know and I go to click on their blog and it is private, and I don't have their email address. I would hate to miss out on all those times when an old friend finds my blog and we get keep in touch. Please, whether I know you or not I would love to hear your reasoning. Thanks!

I just did it cause I'll soon have baby pictures on mine and I didn't want those floating free on the internet.

I know what you mean about missing out. I love it when I have a friend and I see more of my old friends on their page. It totally makes my day. I also love old friends getting in touch with me. I am comfortable with people viewing my page that I do not know. It's not like the people viewing my blog are really trying to stalk me. If I were to go private, people couldn't contact me. It's bugging my when I find someone I know through a friend and I cannot see their page because I don't have their e-mail. Overall, I think private is lame.

I think as long as you don't have too much info on here(or your profile), it is fine to keep it open.
I wish they had a link to email the person if you are not on their private list, and want to be added. Then people that found you could at least ask.

I've thought about it but I also was like...what the heck do i have to hide. I never say anything like where i live exactly, where we work or anything like that so any stranger bored enough to read my page..thats their problem. I say NOT Private!!

Don't go private. Not as many people will be able to keep up with you, and that's the whole point of having a blog, right? I figure, just don't blog about anything stupid, and you'll be perfectly safe. I love reading your blog! If you do decide to go private, make sure you let me know so I can be invited. By the way, Ella is getting cuter and cuter every day. She is GORGEOUS!

Going private is the only way to go especially when you have little ones. Did you know child predators can use your photos of your little ones for who knows what because they are not copy righted and do whatever they want to do with them. This is the WORLD WIDE WEB, and there are a lot of creeps out there. I hope this is a good enough reason.

I'm in the same boat as you I don't know what to think either. I think as long as you don't give out personal info you should be fine. I love that people can see my kids and what we are up to, but there is the predator thing too so i'm not sure!

I just don't want people reading stuff about my personal life, because I am very private about stuff like dating and family anyway. So it just depends on how you feel!

I just think it's more safe. You NEVER can know who's looking at your blog. Someone can even type your name into google and it will bring your blog page up. When I went private, I had someone ask me to add them that I didn't even know. There wasn't a blog of theirs to look at either. So I used the email they gave me to ask them who they were and they NEVER wrote back. I was kind of freaked out. Anyways, it's up to you but I think it's a safer way to go. You just never know. People will find a way to get added if they really want to. If not, they don't know you well enough and shouldn't be looking at your blog in the first place. hehe. Okay I'm done.

PS I saw your darling mom today at PF. I love her. She was our waitress. She said Ella isn't sleeping when you guys come down so you won't be coming down very much anymore. I'm sad! I guess I better make a trip up there sometime soon.

PS. Freaks out there will find a way to view people private pages on the net. If they can put spyware on your computer and hack into people's myspace pages and hack into company computer servers, they can totally hack into a blog.

It's a toughie...I prefer public blogs, and I feel the same about finding friends (and the frustration when their blog is private)...the only reason I went private was because my husband insisted. I guess it's just what you want to do. Good luck. Add me if you decide to go private. :)

Shalie, this is Heidi's mom. I hope if you go private that you will get my email address and add me. I love looking at your blog, and I can't WAIT to go check Sita's out. Ha. Darling family!!!!
